I hold your head

I hold your head
in my hands, as you hold
my heart in your tender care
as everything holds or is
held by something other than itself
As the sea lifts a stone
to its shores, as the tree
holds the ripe autumn fruit, as
the world is lifted through the space of worlds
Thus we both are held by something
and lifted
to where mystery holds mystery in its hand

Stein Mehren, tr. Agnes Scott Langeland
