Jonathan Lamy

Jonathan Lamy is a multidisciplinary poet and performer. He holds an interdisciplinary PhD from the University of Quebec in Montreal, and was responsible for the Rendez-vous video-poésie during Montreal Poetry Festival. He has published three collections of poetry with Editions du Noroit, as well as many articles about poetry by Quebecois and First Nations writers. His poetry has been translated into English and Chinese. His practice as a poet-performer combines participative reading, sound poetry, poetry-action, intervention in public spaces, and video.

depuis que je suis au monde
vous prenez la route
dans mon corps
partout la joie la nuit
je touche les gens
avec des rivières gelées

since I came into the world
you have taken the road
into my body
joy everywhere at night
I touch others
with chill rivers

tout ce qu’il y a autour
a une histoire à raconter

j’entends tout
les pierres et les arbres et les plantes
les êtres humains et les bouches d’égout

ces histoires passent à travers moi
puis continuent leur chemin
laissant un espace vide
comme sur un fossile

everything around
has a story to tell

I hear everything
rocks and trees and plants
humans and manholes

those stories go through me
and continue on their way
leaving a hollow space
as on a fossil
