when you've concertina-ed yourself
into this many train, plane, bus and coach seats
even when you stretch out
you're all crinkle and yawn
hand me down road rage

travelling through the world's intestines
it shows you all its perversions
the stories and dilemmas it struggles to digest
somewhere along the journey
metaphors become the wilful lies
that get you through the fluoro-tinted night
climb aboard, climb aboard
your exits are here, here and

you lay still in a house you pay hundreds
to feel a much sought for solace
yet all you can dream of are
endless roads
unfolding like shed snake skins
your unease hisses you
into the nearest approximation of sleep
