Joe with the Glasses

Joe with the Glasses is an African-American poet from Brooklyn, New York, who has been performing in the Scottish performance poetry scene for the last five years. He was formerly the poet in residence at the National Black Theatre. He has been involved in cataloguing hip-hop and modern African American poetry for the Schomburg centre. His poetry is mostly a telling of personal stories about blackness, ancestry, poverty and the African-American experience. He is interested in the African-American oral poetic tradition and is a proponent of viewing slam poetry as an extension of that tradition.
