Events - Festival 2021

Thursday 5 March, 10:00 - Sunday 8 March, 20:00
Byre Theatre, Abbey Street - Level 2 Foyer

An installation mixing raw footage of scientific marine field recordings, prepared sound and text-extracts in a relationship which is 'neither complementary nor indifferent'

If the ocean stands for 'the unconscious', it is also, as Modernist poet Marianne Moore said, 'quick to return a rapacious look'.

TRAWL is a collaboration between poet Matthew Caley, using text from his sixth collection Trawlerman's Turquoise, musician and bioacoustician Alex South, artist Steve Smart, and experts in marine science at the University of St Andrews including Ellen Garland, Luke Rendell, Bernie McConnell and Richard Bates.

Participants: Matthew Caley
Matthew Caley: Iris Hobson-Mazur
