Past & Present

Friday 8 March, 14:15 - 15:15
Town Hall, Queens Gardens - Council Chamber

Menna Elfyn on Eluned Phillips, Emma Jones on Christina Rossetti

Past & Present sessions offer contemporary speakers and poets the chance to share their enthusiasm for favourite past poets. This Friday afternoon, Menna Eflyn will be discussing Eluned Phillips, a twice bardic crowned Welsh poet whose sense of adventure took her around the world as she wrote poetry, plays, and radio dramas with tightly structured and beautiful language. She'll be joined by another speaker, yet to be announced. Also speaking will be Emma Jones, who will be sharing her interest in Christina Rossetti, an award-winning and critically respected English poet whose lyric poetry crossed genres from romantic to devotional. Both Eluned's and Christina's work has maintained popularity not only from their worth as strong pieces of poetry, but also for their authors' roles in furthering the place of the female poet in the literary canon.
