Past & Present

Friday 9 March, 14:15 - 15:15
The Town Hall, Queens Gardens - Council Chamber

Polly Atkin on Jane Cooper; Jan Baeke on H.H. ter Balkt

In our Past & Present sessions, contemporary speakers share their enthusiasm for favourite past poets. For this Friday afternoon session, we have invited two poets, from England and the Netherlands respectively, to each discuss a favourite past poet. Polly Atkin will be discussing Jane Cooper, an American poet whose work explores women's struggle to maintain meaningful artistic lives, most particularly in the years following WW2. Also speaking will be Jan Baeke, who will be sharing his enthusiasm for H.H. ter Balkt, a Dutch poet who often returned to and revised his experimental, multiplicitous work.

Sponsored by the Dutch Foundation for Literature, with assistance from the Royal Netherlands Embassy
