An exhibition taking you on travels through paper from Rachel Hazell, StAnza Artist in Residence 2017/18

Paper Journeys takes us from the wide white page of Antarctica to the written histories of St Andrews. As the Travelling Bookbinder, Rachel Hazell has been documenting responses to landscape for twenty years. "Seeking meaning has taken me to extremities: I continue to explore how to represent themes of travel and transformation using the book form." Places on the edge give a particular perspective. Pilgrimage works by placing us in the unfamiliar. Bookart subverts and expands an iconic object into new shapes. The great west door of St Andrews Cathedral has been a symbolic gateway for arriving pilgrims since medieval times. Inspired by the text of poets at last year's festival, these bound pages carry narratives "on the road".

Rachel will also be leading a workshop on bookart, and will be in the Byre Theatre for a Meet the Artist event if you’d like to talk to her about her work.
