Noman is My Name

Saturday 9 March, 10:30 - 12:30
Public Library, Church Square - Meeting Room

A poetry workshop on the removal of self, led by Ishion Hutchinson

Our Saturday morning workshop will be led by the multiple award-winning Jamaican poet, Ishion Hutchinson. Through a reading of the Cyclops episode of Homer’s Odyssey (in Emily Wilson’s fine translation), we will consider erasure as an identity of survival. How does, in this tragic scene, the act of removing the self reinforces a sense of self? We will talk about the lyric as the nothing that is.

NB: A copy of Emily Wilson's translation will be available at the Festival Desk at StAnza for persual in advance by those who have bought tickets for the workshop, should you wish to do so.

Participants: Ishion Hutchinson
