London Laureates Showcase

Sunday 6 March, 13:00 - 14:00
Town Hall, Queens Gardens - Council Chamber

Showcase: Selina Nwulu, Zia Ahmed, Harriet Creelman

London Laureates is the collective name for the poets shortlisted for the role of Young Poet Laureate for London, a position awarded annually to a poet aged between 21 and 30 living in London. The award recognises talent and potential and provides a career–changing programme of engagements, professional development and networking, and the role celebrates emerging literary talent and provides a platform for commenting on life in London from the viewpoint of a young person. Selina Nwulu is currently the 2015/16 Young Poet Laureate for London and she will be joined in this showcase by two of her fellow London poets from the 2015 shortlist, Zia Ahmed and Harriet Creelman.

The London Laureates scheme is managed by Spread the Word, London's writer development agency. Spread the Word curates a programme of affordable workshops, masterclasses, and engagement projects. Through this range of activities, they nurture long-term relationships with writers to bring talented new voices into the literary community. Spread the Word supports London-based writers of all forms and is funded through Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation.
