Ignition Press Showcase

Friday 8 March, 13:00 - 14:00
Town Hall, Queens Gardens - Council Chamber

Hear three startling new voices from one of the UK’s newest poetry publishers

Join us for an event focused on three young and emerging poets and their equally exciting new publisher, ignitionpress. A part of Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre, ignitionpress is a pamphlet press with an international outlook, focused on publishing entirely original and arresting poetry. The first poet, Patrick James Errington, is a Canadian writer, translator and researcher who has worked for The New Yorker and The Columbia Journal, and is currently the editor-in-chief of The Scores. Reading with him will be Belinda Zhawi, a Zimbabwean-born writer and educator. Belinda was a 2015/16 London Laureate and the 2016/17 Institute of Contemporary Arts Associate Poet. Also reading is Lily Blacksell, a Roundhouse poetry slam finalist. She writes for page and for stage, and was been nominated for the Pushcart Prize 2017 and Best New Poets 2017. The reading will be introduced by poet and editor at ignitionpress, Alan Buckley.
