In keeping with one of this year's StAnza themes, Coast Lines, the Junor Gallery is showing East Neuk a solo exhibition of coastlines and villages in this corner of Fife by Scottish landscape artist Ruth Nicol. Ruth's work is renowned for its refreshingly honest view of Scotland. We often experience a landscape fleetingly through a car window and she captures this with the recurring motif of a road in her works. The way we travel through a landscape with a sense of anticipation is beautifully captured in the 'Approaching' works in East Neuk. In her coastline scenes she contrasts the built environment, drawn with precision, with large areas of canvas painted in a free, expressive style.
