Reading: Aonghas MacNeacail, Jean Portante

This Border Crossings reading brings together two prolific writers whose work goes far beyond poetry. Luxembourg-born, Paris-based poet Jean Portante writes in such diverse genres as poetry, essays and plays, and has also translated a number of poets into French. He has won literary awards in both France and Luxembourg, and has two collections out in English. Portante will be reading his work in French, with the English poems read by his translator, Zoë Skoulding. Aonghas MacNeacail shares Portante’s interest in translation, and is also an established lyricist and librettist, as well as a poet. His work has appeared in English and Gaelic and he won the Stakis Prize for Scottish Writer of the Year with his third collection, Oideachadh Ceart ('A Proper Schooling and Other Poems').
