StAnza International Poetry Festival

Events: StAnza 2010

With Seamus Heaney making his first return visit to StAnza after a decade, and our gala opening night on 17 March being a celebration of poetry and music from Ireland, StAnza 2010 is set to make waves. In total more than 60 poets will take part, coming from Canada – a three poet focus – the USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, Cuba, Croatia, Australia, Ireland and from all over Scotland and the UK. They’ll join other writers, artists, musicians, actors, comedians and film makers to deliver a huge range of poetry and related art works. The 2010 programme sees the development of our intimate Round Table readings first introduced two years ago and which have proved so popular, together with an innovatory series of ‘Inspire’ sessions, on top of which this year we feature not one but two showcases of up and coming poets, one from Scotland, the other international. We’re also delighted to have Kei Miller as Poet in Residence for 2010 and he’ll be active around the festival.

All the variety you expect to find at StAnza is also programmed in. Start the day at one of our chatty and relaxed Poetry Breakfasts, look out for Poetry Theatre interacting with festival-goers in the Byre Foyers and save some energy for our lively late night sessions. At StAnza, each day is packed with events. Enjoy the diverse gathering of poets, the annual StAnza Lecture, readings in our regular atmospheric venues, poets Past & Present, exhibitions, workshops and our refocused Masterclass, this year on the Myth & Legend theme, collaborations with musicians, poetry film, children's events, various public participation events – and plenty of fun thrown in as well – all packed into five eventful days.
